Guiding Principles
Cycling and walking are cornerstones of our vision for a complete transportation system. We are taking steps to implement plans developed over years of discussion and debate. While this study is to determine alternate routes parallel to State Street, this study is part of the overall Life on State Implementation Plan and is working in nexus with past work and ongoing projects. Existing bike lanes are being redesigned with next‐level modern designs with added safety and increased comfort to enable a broader range of users. While there will be trade‐offs, the added benefits of people‐friendly corridors have a lot of positive implications like public health, air quality, economic competitiveness, and quality of life. Transportation investments that create people‐oriented space will attract new development and create a virtuous cycle that results in attractive urban places. Stakeholder input is crucial to the overall success of the study will be considered in the decision making process.

Timeline
This study started in December 2020 and completed in 2022. The majority of public engagement occurred between March and September of 2021, with final recommendations and concept designs complete by end of 2022.
Accomplishments
Upgrades and extension of the protected bike lane on 300 East (500 South to 900 South)
New bike lanes on 200 East (500 South to 900 South)
Street reconfiguration of Main Street (700 South to 1700 South) from 4 to 3 lanes
The Main Street Vision document that describes rebuilding Main Street to address a variety of infrastructure issues, establish a high-comfort bicycling facility, and rejuvenate the public spaces along Main Street.
We set out to develop high‐comfort bike routes parallel to State Street, and we are proud to say we've made great progress on Main Street, 200 East, and 300 East. There is much more that can be done, and we have some exciting projects in the planning/design stages that we will see built through the next few years.
